Why Do We All Love Fried Foods?

Fried calamari, KFC, McDonald’s, fish and chips, and more… Health practitioners have agreed that fried foods are always unhealthy. If they are not unhealthy, at least their saturated fat content makes them less healthy than other ways to process foods.

Nonetheless, we can’t help but not resist when a friend offers us a bite of these fried delicacies. Sometimes, we will be back for more fried goodness, to the point we ignore the impacts on our health.

These entire phenomena are the things that make us think, why do people love *cross*unhealthy*cross* fried foods so much? Here are the reasons:

#1. Fried foods (particularly desserts) are delicious and crunchy

This reason may sound subjective – After all, delicious or not, it’s all about a person’s taste. However, many people agree fried foods are more delicious than other types of foods because of their crunchiness.

At some points, people may deep-fry their doughnuts. Alternatively, they may even coat ice creams with flour and egg mixtures, then deep-fry the ice cream balls until they have crunchy textures. Amazingly, this entire crunchiness doesn’t take away the sweet tastes of the doughnuts and ice creams.

The more crunches we add to the fried foods, the more enjoyable and delicious the tastes are. Coupled with the ways they preserve the un-fried taste, it becomes even clearer why people love fried foods so much.

#2. These foods are the foods you enjoy eating with friends

Fried foods are more enjoyable when you crunch them with your friends. It doesn’t matter what you are doing while you enjoy every bit of your fried goodness.

Even if you and your friends are doing nothing, everything seems to turn into a miracle when you eat fried foods. Contrast these things with when you eat other types of foods, or even not eat at all. We have two examples here that we wish to share with you.

Imagine a person gathering with five of his other friends while enjoying chicken fingers with hot and spicy and mayonnaise dipping sauces. Another person is also with five of his other friends while not eating anything in particular.

The first group will have merrier conversations and quality times for fighting over whose getting which dips, chicken fingers, and many others. Meanwhile, the second group’s time will be wasted over imagining things that drown them in more negativity.

So, those are the reasons why fried foods become more enjoyable. After all, it encourages positivity and camaraderie between friends.

#3. Fried foods are generally more affordable and practical

People will have no reasons to object to affordable and practical choices in life, including fried foods. Even people who live in developed countries will love fried foods because of these two reasons.

These foods require lesser waiting times than other types of foods. People in the kitchen usually don’t think too much when processing fried foods. At some points, they just have to add more cornflakes or similar ingredients that add to the fried foods’ crunchiness.

Then, those people will “play” with topping varieties, if there is anything that they should do. The more varieties of dipping sauces and other toppings, the more likely people will try and pay for everything.

Let’s not forget that fried foods are generally more affordable regardless of where the sellers sell them. Speaking of their places, we can find them practically everywhere. Now, those things become yet some other reasons not to say no to *cross*junk*cross* fried foods.

#4. Fried foods can be healthy

Japanese fried foods are the things that come into our minds when we think about healthy fried foods. Yes – these delicacies that people commonly refer to as tempura are Asian exotics that tend to be irresistible.

Tempura doesn’t only consist of fried shrimps. At some points, the chefs can fry green vegetables like spinach, lettuce, and zucchini. There are also the tempura varieties of baby carrots. These delicacies known as tempura moriawase taste crunchy and also healthy thanks to the dipping sauces that greatly decrease the saturated fat amounts in the fried foods.

Modern Japanese cuisines also substitute conventional, McDonald’s-like french fries with sweet potato fries. These “french fries” do not only contain less saturated fats but can also minimize risks of getting cancers, particularly when we cook the fries with their skin.

Meanwhile, healthy fried foods don’t always need to be Japanese. We can even make the tempura moriawase variations of fried tempeh, a vegan protein-rich ingredient. We can dip the fried tempeh inside a saucer with soybean sauce and chopped green chili (cabe rawit). The results are delicious and healthy fried foods, just like Japanese tempura moriawase.

#5. These foods may improve our mood conditions

Fried foods are almost like chocolate in that it’s often easy for us to get addicted to them. Furthermore, these addictive foods often leave us wanting to eat more. When we are feeling sad, down, or depressed, we often think of what fried foods we can eat if we can’t eat chocolates for whatever reasons.

Many people reported they feel happier after consuming fried goodness, such as french fries, fried chicken patties in McChicken, or similar dishes. Some fried dishes like Javanese fried rice with chicken satays, keropok (crackers), and acar kuning (yellow pickles) can even calm down fights between people, particularly when the plates are appealing.

It’s because we feel comfortable when eating the food. So, those things become the reasons why all of us tend to run to fried foods. After all, the reason that we’ve stated in point number four above (that some fried foods are healthy) is important, too.

Some final words

Indeed, fried foods are always irresistible. We don’t limit fried snacks like chicken popcorn, french fries, and the like when we talk about fried foods. Instead, we also talk about fried main dishes, like Javanese fried rice and the Asian’s famous fried Indomie brand.

The more creative the servings, the more likely people can’t reject fried foods. Plus, the more likely the fried snacks or main dishes leave people’s tummy happy and can ease fights between people, too.
